The Villa Medicea arose in Buti from the ruins of an ancient fortress dated back to the year 1000. It was the residence of the administrators of the grand Dukedom of the Medicis : here the captains from the city of Florence had a strong hold with a watch tower built in 1556 and a residence in which they could also reside during the periods of the hunt.....

Crossing through the fabulously frescoed rooms with their ornate doors and the plaster reliefs one can immagine and relive the atmosphere of the 1700 ‘s in an enviroment that has remained in tune with that period of time. Closing your eyes in the silence it is easy to relive the history of the past. Reading a book or walking in the tranquil gardens of the “ park of flowers” all makes for an unforgettable and magical experience.

The Villa is made up of three floors over a large cellar. The cellar consists of three rooms , all with vaulted cielings one of which has a peaked vaulted cieling and the other two have rounded vaults.

The ground and first floor ( Floor of the Nobles ) have the same theme: a large central salon , from which you pass into other frescoed rooms painted by “Pietro Giarre” and other artists of the 17th century.

The attic spaces were used as drying areas for grains and fruit and are divided into three arched areas and lighted by natural light from the north and the south.

The Villa is immersed in a typical Tuscan style garden with it’s little avenues and pathways that lead you to resting places adorned with statues, large fountains and century old plants.
